Law Enforcement & Public Safety Career

Martha Hazzard Decker is a retired police detective and assistant chief of police with an extensive background in law enforcement. She completed command staff training at the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute and received specialized training in statement analysis.

She is a Texas-certified law enforcement instructor and has served as a SWAT team member, negotiator, and rescue diver. Her areas of expertise include domestic terrorism and crimes against children. Decker was also part of the North Texas Anti-Terrorism Task Force.

Additionally, she worked as a special investigator for the State of Texas, handling serious cases involving child abuse and child fatalities, while contributing to the Anti-Human-Trafficking Task Force and speaker panels.

Emergency Services & Investigative Work

Beyond policing, Decker has dedicated years to emergency response and investigative roles. She served as a volunteer firefighter, where she acted as training coordinator and public information officer, and was also the lead SCUBA diver on the dive team. Recently, she returned to volunteer firefighting.

She has worked as a private investigator and has over 13 years of experience as a process server. Her investigative work extends to collaborating with law enforcement agencies on unsolved crimes and missing persons cases.

Decker is an award-winning journalist, best-selling author, and published photographer. She frequently appears on radio shows and podcasts and is a regular speaker at conferences across the country.

She recently completed the first book in a three-part series on the Haunted Hill House in Mineral Wells, Texas. The first installment, Haunted Hill House: Where Spirits Speak, became a best-seller. She is also working on a revised edition of Paranormal Profiling, featuring advanced interview techniques.

Paranormal Research & Field Investigations

As the founder of East Texas Paranormal, Decker has over 30 years of experience investigating unexplained phenomena. She is considered an empath and works on a wide range of paranormal and supernatural cases for both private clients and businesses. Her investigations have included reported hauntings across multiple cities, as well as phenomena such as Bigfoot sightings and UFO encounters. She is also a Field Investigator with MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), further expanding her work into extraterrestrial research.
