James Joseph Jones is a writer of dark, atmospheric fiction, crafting grim and imaginative stories shaped by his travels, dreams, reading, and inner curiosities. His work invites readers into eerie worlds best explored under candlelight—where the macabre feels both unsettling and strangely comforting.
Blending old-world influences with modern storytelling, Jones draws inspiration from a wide literary spectrum, including sixteenth-century Spanish picaresque tales, Gothic traditions of the eighteenth century, nineteenth-century Romantic and Victorian literature, and twentieth-century horror and Hillbilly Gothic. While he values contemporary trends, he believes timeless storytelling still holds power, offering readers a rich fusion of classic and modern horror.
A lover of authentic voice, he embraces dialect and accent in dialogue, inspired by writers like Robert Louis Stevenson and Cormac McCarthy, adding depth and realism to his characters.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jones studied German and English Literature at the University of Tennessee and also attended the University of Bonn in Germany. He now lives in Tennessee with his family, balancing his writing passion alongside a regular profession.
His style—best described as neo-alt—explores horror and the paranormal with fresh perspectives, especially within vampire lore, as seen in his series The Weston Chronicles. A self-proclaimed bibliophile, Jones also enjoys gardening, travel, and drawing inspiration from the diverse people and places he encounters across the United States and Europe.
